whatever wheel you choose, make sure it is LIGHTWEIGHT (>20 lbs.)! BBS makes a damn nice 17 to fit that car, and it is LIGHT, forged aluminum, which is what you want to go with. Cheap, heavy rims will adversely effect the unsprung weight of your suspension, and make the car feel strange over small lifts in the road/big sharp turns/etc. The best looking light rims for BMW continue to be BBS. As for width, stay around 235-245 front, 255 max rear. I use 245 all the way around for rotation/practicality purposes. DUNLOPS are great in wet/dry situations, the sp sport w10, and the sp9000 are both really good all around tires. The "sp sport w10" is priced better, and I like it more for dry roads. go to www.tirerack.com, and search for wheels for an 87 M6, it takes the same as your 85, which is not listed, being gray mkt.
