If it were my car, my first choice would be a 16 inch set of BBS RS wheels. Those are the cross spoke, 3 piece wheels which were the undisputed ultimate wheels when your car was new. They are time-period correct for your car, lightweight, strong, and just look "right."
My second choice would be a 16 inch BBS cross-spoke one piece wheel.
My last choice would be a ubiquitous chromed 5 spoke 17 or 18 inch wheel. Those wheels just don't look right on the beautiful 6 series, (in my opinion), they were not around at the time the car was new, and you see chromed 5 spoke wheels EVERYWHERE now, including rows and row of them at Pep Boys, etc. I think an M6 or M635 is a classic, and deserves to be treated as such.
I personally would not go to an 18 inch wheel, for sure, and would hesistate even at a 17.
Of course, the above is just my own opinion, others will vary.
: I just purchased a very clean 85 m635 from original owner importer w/all records. Still has TRX tires and original silver 3 pc BBS rims. I'd like to swap the wheels and tires, do I go 17 or 18" and which width? Any tire choice that is a good compromise dry/wet. Car will never see snow. Interested to see what has been successful.
