Don't know about Buffalo hide, but I HAVE had great results using SEM vinyl dye on the standard BMW leather seats. It holds up well and made the seats look like new.
I do not believe it will work after soaking he leather with oil, however, as the seats were originally surface dyed, from the factory, at least in the blue I redyed.

Why do you discourage its use?
