: Well welcome to my world. I had the same prob. Here's what I did. Changed the Fuel Filter ( it happens to sit next to the fuel pump ) on my '83 633CSI. I also changed my spark plugs and ...I cleaned out the Airflow Meter. I literally took it off and sprayed Gumout through both sides and used a clean rag left it open to air and reassembled the entire air flow line...Problem gone just drove it on a small highway at 120MPH no more surges...try it. The new fuel filter allowed my fuel pump to "sing" again with that lovely hum of fuel moving freely through it...These two tasks are inexpensive just time consuming. Good Luck
