Can anyone recommend to me how to proceed with shipping
out tires already mounted on wheels ? What sort of prep work, if any, should be done to protect the finish?

I assume UPS will work but if anyone knows which carrier is best for wheels & tires, please let me know.

How does Tire Rack or Discount tires ship theirs?
