: : Does anybody know if its okay to use the Ni-MH batteries for the SI Board? Or should I stick to the Ni-Cd type. Thanks for any comments.
: From your question I assume that you are not considering the "recommended" fix which is to soldier leads to the SI board and locate a remote battery holder under the dash where it is easy to get to. Unless you like taking the instrument cluster out every few years, you might want to consider that. It's easy to do and there are directions that I can point you to if you need them.
Thanks for the comment. I have soldered leads (with two AA battery holders) and have a remote location under front kick panel. I have some NI-Cd (1000 mA/H) but they seem to last about 2 weeks prior to giving out. A recharge and reset makes things right. But something is wrong with the charging circuit, or I have crappy "new" batteries. I had considered using the high energy Ni-MH (1200 mA/h) thinking the extra output would help, but perhaps I need to use Ni-Cd that are more like spec (450 mA/h). Maybe the 3 ft leads are adding enough extra resistance to cause the charging circuit grief? Anyway, I bought some Radio Shack Ni-Cd standards (700 mA/h)to try.
