Okay, here's how I stopped this problem in my l6...
1)lift hood
2)locate huge wiring harness by firewall, in driver's side.
3)note the cracked, old looking "caulk" that holds this harness to the firewall!
4)Using LOTS of elbow grease, clean any dirt or paint from said harness/caulking.
5)(THIS STEP MUST BE DONE ON A DRY DAY) Using Silicone sealant, cover base of harness, and surrounding area in approx. 1/8in. of sealant, let dry, repeat.

NOTE: my leak was on the driver's side, and came off of the bottom of the dash, as well as down the kick panel, ruining a factory speaker! I spent a month looking @ the window as a suspect, then I realised it was under the hood, against the firewall. After fixing that piece, I went along, sealing any cracked rubber I could find in that area. I have had no leaks since, and My car smells like a BMW again, not a mold farm!!!!!

If you need help with this process, feel free to email me!!!!!!
