I was looking for a way to use the rebuilt engine from my wrecked 1980 euro 635 Csi, and came across what may be a good opportunity:
There is a 1981 735i available, described as follows:
"This car's engine doesn't work and the heater has to be repaired. This car can turn out to be a real bargain for you if you are able to obtain a replacement engine for it. It has power windows, steering, roof, brakes, locks, mirrors, A/C and an original BMW radio-cassette with a power antenna. It has an automatic transmission (3 speeds). This car has been in California since 1985, it was privately imported from Germany - it is therefore a European model (you can notice this by the fact that it hasn't got these ugly looking bumper bars that imported cars had to be fitted with at the time).
.......the roof and trunk lid need paint - the finish was weathered from the sun. There is hardly any rust on the body, only a couple of spots near the trunk lock.
The interior is clean, all the seats are intact, apart from a small tear in the driver's seat. There is not one crack in the dash board. I had both rear tires replaced as well as the water pump, the fuel rail, and almost all of the fuel lines, a leak in the exhaust system was repaired. The rotators of the front brakes are practically new (about 5,000 miles). I have receipts for all the repair. Before the engine broke down, this car was great fun to drive. Despite its age, it was great to handle and very dynamic. I would have
invested the money to replace the engine but I am leaving the country, so I have to sell."
Is it feasible to use my 635 engine in this 735 vehicle, what is the likley expense and what are the potential pitfalls of such a project? Thanks.
