: I have an '86 euro 635, and I want to replace the original 390x165mm wheels by a set of 16x7.5in wheels.
: According to what I know, the original offset is 20mm, and I thought that same offset should be kept if changing the wheel width, (so half of the width increase is kept by each side of the wheel). Unfortunately at Tire Rack, the say that what I have just explained doesn’t have to be necessarily that way, and that a setup like that may not work in certain cars. The question is if I should keep with the 20mm offset when I buy the new 16x7.5in wheels, or I should change it?
: I have chosen Mille Miglia MM11(16x7.5) and Dunlop Sport8000 (225/50ZR16) for the replacement. Does anybody have these ones on their 635s? How did they work? How much offset?
--------------------------------------------------For 16X7.5 wheels the proper offset is 15mm.

This is what BMW installed on the e24 cars with this wheel width, and it was also used on the 735/750/850 series cars, so there are lots of used OEM wheels out there that are better made than aftermarket wheels and for less money.
