88 635CSi performance information requested (archive)

I recently purchased my 635 - it was love at first sight.

I want to learn about performance enhancements. There is a wealth of websites for parts - Dinan, Korman, etc, which I have gleaned from this forum, but what I need first is a good book or two on performance issues so that I can make the right decisions, and understand the implications of each option. I don't want a racer, but would like to gain perhaps 50-70 HP if that is possible, and an improved feel (heresy to suggest that the current feel requires improvement, I know - but it does :-).

Can anyone recommend some books/guides to performance for late model E24? Patient explanations for the un-tutored would be a significant plus. For instance what does a new chip set do for me (and which set)?, can I/should I supercharge (and what IS supercharging anyway)? etc...

Your guidance is much appreciated.
