Over the last 20 years, Having owned 7 BMW's including: '72 2002tii, '72 3.0csi and now a '85 M635. I can say unequivocally it's the best BMW I have ever driven/owned. On balance you get a very rare car without the heavy unnecessary luxury appointments BMWNA thought were necessary for the US market. Better breathing motor etc. Alex is right on the emissions, but hopefully as the car passes 15 yrs old some states top checking. Forget the mods on a sleeper 6 it isn't worth the disappointment in the end.

Hopefully you can find one with all records, make sure they do a leakdown test not just a compression test when you have the car checked out. It helps a lot to take to someone who is familiar with the M cars and the Euros even better.

Insurance can be a bit tricky as the insurers don't have the car listed via the VIN. They tend to reclassify as a 635csi, so will the state when you register. Takes a little effort to get them to get it right.

Hope that helps

: : I haven't driven the 635 but I own and daily drive a M6. It is a truly great car. Fantastic engine (which you cannot recreate with the 635) and super handling. Very comfortable and classy interior. My (biased)opinion: go for the M6.

:
: Wow! Already 2 to 1 in favor for the M6 and 0 and 3 for the 635! No surprise, I should of known better to ask a bunch of BMW fanatics! Great feedback and I'll check out the M635.

: What's the deal on the M635? I imagine they are all grey market rides and a challenge to find good support. Anybody think differently?
