: I am a Washington resident but i'm in the army in germany. This news of removing grey market cars is both surprising and disturbing. Do you have any additional information on that? maybe a contact? it seems like an irrational regulation.
: thanks

I do not have a contact. I simply called WA DMV and spoke to the guy who answered. It WAS depressing, but I bought my Alpina anyway. I live in Thurston Co. where we do not yet have emmission checks.
BTW, I recently spoke to the owner of the US Alpina distributorship (in CA) and they had their previously CA registered turbo-Euro 735 (a 745i look-alike) declared illegal-for-highway-use eventhough it passes the sniffer cycle with flying colors simply because under the hood it doesn't exactly match pictures the smog stations are supplied with.
Seeing just how many enthisiast-owned Euro cars are in the whole country, I cannot believe that we are that big a problem (especially when one take-off in a DC-9 aircraft that I fly for a living equals 35,000 miles of driving a car).
The "jack-booted thugs" are soon coming to a neighborhood near you.
