You might want to look into getting Classic or Antique plates for your car depending on what's available in your state. I've been looking into it and will go this route when I get around to photographing the car. Here in Pennsylvania, a Classic is 15 years or older, while an Antique is 20. A Classic must be in orginal condition. There is a one time $75 regsitration fee that is good for the lifetime of the car, and it is no longer subject to emissions testing. I assume this will also bring my insurance down. The downside is that you aren't supposed to drive it more than occasionally, which they define as once a week.

I've also been thinking that a good quality color printout of someone else's emissions sticker could possibly look very spiffy on my windshield. :)

: If the car was converted by a reputable compliance company and met DOT/EPA regs as of compliance date and if you can PROVE it, it is OK not to have a CAT.

: BUT-it still must pass your state or local pollution check. If it cannot, you must do what it takes to make it meet. Some states have limits in $ on how much you must spend before you are granted a permanent exemption, but I am not sure if they will be as tollerant with gray market cars.

: My state (WA) says that despite any Federal paperwork, they fully intend to get all gray market cars off the road soon. I had called to ask about the purchase of my Alpina and the guy I spoke to warned that if I bought it I was absolutely throwing the money away as it would be undriveable in a couple of years.

: They have everyone so worried the PO was told by several car lots they would not accept the car as a trade, even for nothing! They asked him to remove it before he could stay to look at their cars for sale.
