I don't know much about this sort of thing with the e24- i'm happy w/ my stock 86 (although i'm considering stiffer shocks and bigger tires) but supercharging is the compressing of the air into the engine via a belt driven compressor. Unlike turbos, which use the exauhst gasses, and have what is known as turbo lag- a delay, super chargers run off the motor and are ready at idle. However, this is a quite expensive option, but most likely the only way to get 50-70hp. Most supercharging kits i've seen sell for $3k and over.
