: : : I have a beautiful 1984 633CSi w/auto transmission. I am seriously considering upgrading with a 3.5 liter engine, exhaust and wiring harness (w/ECU). I have a couple of BMW mechanics encouraging this upgrade. They are very good and only work on BMWs. Any suggestions or comments?
: : -------------------------------------------------
: : I own a 535is and a 633CSi and drive lots of 3.3 and 3.5 litre engined BMWs and unless your engine is shot and you don't want to rebuild it, I don't see enough power difference to make it worth the money or hassle. You theoretically only gain 1 hp and about 20 ft/lb of torque.

: : Your 633 has a 3.25 dif and most 635s came with 3.45 so some of the gut-level feeling of more power with the 635 may have been due to the ratio difference.

: : In fact I just drove an auto equipped Euro 633 (200hp) with 100K that would blow the doors off of a beautiful like-new '86 635 (182hp) with 65K I have in my shop.

: Hello BoB,
: I own a 84/633 and an 87 635. The faster car is the 633csi and your wright the rear is 3.25 which makes the difference in performance. If one needs to change engines ,the only one that shows a difference is the 208 hp from 88 on. This with a chip is a difference.

Why not put in a Euro eng w/ hi compression- 218 hp!
