Have had the same problem with my 86 only glue dryed out leaving material coming off. replaced with gray foam backed material from GM headliner upholstery material not quite a perfect match but nobody has noticed it in the 2 years that I have done it. I went without the use of the sun roof for 4 years because of the repair cost but found an expert at a auto glass dealer who used to work on all kinds of sunroofs cost 100.00 plus 10 $ for material much better than 1000$ quoted by BMW: MY beautiful "new" 86 CSi has torn Sunroof headliner only. The balance of the head liner is OK. It's all made out of a very course weaved gray cloth and when it moves against its self it causes abraisions and tears. I don't think its a good idea to use the samr factory cloth. Bad design. Do I have to replace the entire headliner or does any one have a suggestion? If so what is everyone using for headliner material and where do you get it??
