The electric welder theory sounds good, but then it might not run at all if the ECU was fried.

Sounds like spark plugs more than anything.
Check those spark plugs. 6-series need the right plugs. Your car probably needs silver plugs made just for the six series (from the dealer) to get the best power.

Could try a cheap generic O2 sensor from Autozone - it's a Bosch anyway, but you'll need to splice the wires.

Sometimes a backpressure problem can do that. Maybe the new exhaust is blocked.

Faulty or loose temp sensor can cause it to lose power too.

A new fuel pressure regulator never hurts and may make it drive better anyway.

A faulty fuel pump relay can make it run poorly. Good to replace that anyway and cheap too.
