Speedometer acting up.....HELP!!!! (archive)

Just looking for some insight here. I have a 1988 6 and when I hit about 65 to 70 mph the speedometer goes crazy. It will shoot up to 120 mph then come back down to the correct speed of about 65 mph. The cars rpm's stay the same so the engine isn't racing. I was thinking the cable to the speedometer may be bad? Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be and what it will cost to fix it?
It's really annoying watching the needle go crazy while driving. Thank you very much!!!
