you most likely just need an "a" pack. it is very common on that car. for some reason, if you rev up the engine in park or neutral with the wheels on the ground, the "a" pack breaks. not one of bmw's better ideas. if you can find a reputable trans shop, you should be able to salvage your trans. i suggest this because there is a high likelyhood of the same problem with any other trans you might be able to locate. hope this info helps. i actually have to do it on my L6 which just started to do the same thing as yours.
