: I have no record of the fluid history of a "new" 86' 635. Synthetic oil advantage? Standard oil 10-50? What are the reprocussions of changing oil brands and what do 6ers like to use?

I believe the manual for my M6 says to use 20-50. I use a valvoline synthetic think its 15-50 anyways I know its not wise to use really thin grade oils in a bimmer engine. some people claim using synthetic causes oil leaks, I haven't experienced any problems making the switch and I have run syn. for the last 10,000 miles.
