: : : I was wondering where everyone buys there gas?

: : : I use Amoco/Texaco whenever I can, but there is a noticable difference when I must stray... I would be interested in all of your opinions...

: : I agree. Amoco is my first choice. I used to use Shell, but I noticed my car ran poorly on it. Mobil is my second choice. Use the highest octane at all times.

: I agree on Amoco and Mobil, but strongly disagree on the "use the highest octane" part. You should in fact use the LOWEST octane that your car needs; anything else is a waste of money with no added performance. You will get worse gas mileage with higher octane gas, since the octane rating is a measure of gas' anti-knock additive. It is not a "power rating." If your car has an aftermarket chip, or is knocking under load, you need higher octane gas. Otherwise, stick with what the manual recommends.

Good point about the often misunderstood octane rating. Many people do in fact incorrectly assume that it is somehow a power rating. Having said that, the BMW specifies 96 octane for the s38 engine in the M6. Based on the differences between the european and american rating systems I believe that works out to 93 or 94 in the US rating system. I use Sunoco Ultra 94 in my M6 and this seems very good. I understand that Sunoco 94 is not available everywhere as it is here in western PA.
