: : : The heater blows hot air while idling. Once I start accelerating, it starts blowing cold. Would this be the thermostat.

: : : Any help appreciated.

: : : 85 635
: : : 80 635

: : The problem is your heater valve (located on the firewall right above the brake cylinder). When the engine speed increases, the water pressure increases and if the heater valve is no longer working, the higher pressure will force the valve shut. Therefore you get heat when the engine idles but not when it is running.

: : It's an easy repair. You can either replace the valve or there is a rebuild kit available that replaces all of the internal parts of the valve that is cheaper... Your choice.

:
: Ok, how do you get the valve out? My '79 633 appears to come out into the pass compartment which means remove the dash, heater, a/c...
: Is there a trick?

I'm afraid that I can't help with your '79. I have an '85 and the valve is very easy to get to... It's mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment just above the master cylinder. It has 2 hoses running to it and one electrical connection on the top.
