: I'm using Mobil1 15-50 in my M635. Burns about .5 qt by the time I change it at 4000 miles. The car has 50k miles on it. From my records the car has always had synthetic.

: The shop I frequent, Excluservice in Rockville MD, recommends synthetic in older cars if the mileage is lower.

: : : I began using mobil1 15-50 in my new/used 88 535i. In my previous 528e, I used Kendall 20-50 and had good luck with it. No leaks and low,low consumption--almost nil. (220,000miles). When I used mobil 1 in the 535i, I noticed fairly high consumption--.5qt/1200miles. I switched to valvoline synthetic blend 20-50 and had similar consumption. Now I have switched to kendall gt-1 20-50 and int the first 1000 miles, consumption is again nil. Amazing. Also, with the mobil and the valvoline on first start in the morning, the oil light would take 10 seconds to go out. Now with the kendall, it goes out in 3 sec. or less, even in 32 degree f. weather. I like redline products for the driveline though. I will use them in my transmission and diff because I have had good luck in my old rx-7. In this engine, it will be Kendall. My wife's Camry really likes Mobil 1 10-30. The M30 motors seem to have larger clearances so dino oil works better, I guess.

: : KK I have no record of the fluid history of a "new" 86' 635. Synthetic oil advantage? Standard oil 10-50? What are the reprocussions of changing oil brands and what do 6ers like to use?
