86' 635CSi STILL running rough (archive)

My mechanic (private BMW guy) told me to disconnect 02 sensor to see if it was the problem w/ rough idle, missing, lurching pulling hills etc. I did, and it ran ok for a time, so I figured it was sensor. I replaced it with a Bosch, and now, after computer has "relearned", it's running like crap. Mechanic says probably air box? Any advise to save me $$$$ I don't have to diagnose this troublesome motronics system?
