I had good luck replacing the bulbs with new ones from the dealer. You will have to partially or fully remove the cluster to accomplish this. The lights attach to the dash, above the cluster, and shine through an orange plastic filter to get that orange glow. It's also very helpful to wipe the dust off of the filter (after 20 year the accumulated crud can block the light). Note that the bulbs are the "tiny" ones, and not the same as the larger ones in post 9/81 cars.
