I concur with the fuel pressure regulator...I had the same problem. Watch running it too much in the diagnosis mode; an overly rich running condition can cause failure of the catalytic convertor....(as in big chunks of ceramic honeycomb bouncing around in your muffler.)

Bentley gives a good diagnostic procedure in the E28 manual.

Good luck,

: : My car after setting over night in the rain stoped running under 2500 rpm, and it is hard to start because I have to rev it right away to keep it running otherwise it just stalls. Any suggestions at what to look for or try before dealing with a shop?

: Check the fuel pressure regulator located at the end of the fuel injector rail. I had a similar problem caused by the fuel pressure being too high and flooding the engine at low rpm.
