: Hi group,
: I've had my 635CSi for about 12K miles now and in the last 1K or less, the car has developed some hesitation while under steady throttle. I purchased the car after a tune-up and was wondering what to do here rather than just throw money at it. The hesitation is like a rhythmic hiccup that happens every few seconds as though the gas supply was cut off. Seems to be affected by the cold a little bit, only during steady throttle. The car is a totally stock U.S. model and I haven't fiddled with anything under the hood aside from changing the oil and air filter. I need your help or pointers here. For all I know, this could be very basic. I'd like to get the car running as smoothly as it was when I bought it. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with my 85 635. The symptoms got steadily worse until finally it wouldn't start anymore. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay.

This is located on the front side of the fuse box. There are two relays sheathed in rubber. It should be the one on the right. The relay to the left of it is the Main relay and has 5 prongs.

The fuel pump relay has only 4 prongs and can be switched with any of the 30A 12V relays in the fuse box for easy testing.

This cleared my problem right up and saved me a chunk of change that a local shop was trying to sucker me into paying for a new fuel pump.

Good Luck - Let us know if this helped.
