I added a post about the 4HP22 trans. I have a rebuildable trans and would like to know about the commonality of the failure and availibility of low cost parts. the following is my earlier post;
Is there a common part failure? I mean, Is it usually lip seals or forward clutches? or the pump? What commonly fails? Is there
a place the average guy can get a minor rebuild kit? There aren't alot of rebuilders around here that know BMW's. The few I
asked just kinda looked at me funny. You know, that,BMW = $$$$$ look. The reality of it is, it's just nuts and bolts. They
don't know they hold a german car together. I have an auto out of a 84 533. As I understand,this is an 84 only tranny!
Forward motion failed one day, just like that! I parked the car and came back an hour later to leave, and nothing! I drove the
car home in reverse.(about 15 mi) After getting "the look" I decided to locate and install a used tranny. Anyway, I think the
failure is lip seals. So back to the original question. Is there place a guy can get a minor rebuild kit with out "the look".
