over the place and then die. The same happens with my Temp gauge. It will bounce from h would cost $200 at a dealer, but the batteries can be replaced inexpensively. How do i do this?? Also, the lighting on the right side ventilation controls (fan speed, etc) doesn't turn on, but if i tap the dash, they do. Could that be the batteries or a loose wire? Thanks for your help.
Best solution is have instrument cluster rebuilt by independent instrument shop (about $200.00) when I checked here in Dallas, or find good used one in wrecking yard. The cluster unit is not hard to remove from dash, as I found out myself after "high-end, quality" rip off shop told me the whole dash has to be removed on a 6 to get cluster out. The cluster from 5-series of the same year will also work and are in much more plentiful supply. Ihave an 85 5-series cluster in my 85 6. All works well except for light unit for auto gear selection display. $85.00 thru dealer-I can live without it for awhile.
