: : over the place and then die. The same happens with my Temp gauge. It will bounce from h would cost $200 at a dealer, but the batteries can be replaced inexpensively. How do i do this?? Also, the lighting on the right side ventilation controls (fan speed, etc) doesn't turn on, but if i tap the dash, they do. Could that be the batteries or a loose wire? Thanks for your help.

: : Best solution is have instrument cluster rebuilt by independent instrument shop (about $200.00) when I checked here in Dallas, or find good used one in wrecking yard. The cluster unit is not hard to remove from dash, as I found out myself after "high-end, quality" rip off shop told me the whole dash has to be removed on a 6 to get cluster out. The cluster from 5-series of the same year will also work and are in much more plentiful supply. Ihave an 85 5-series cluster in my 85 6. All works well except for light unit for auto gear selection display. $85.00 thru dealer-I can live without it for awhile.

: You do not think that replacing the SI batteries would help. It would be a lot cheaper, and according the the Enthusiasts Companion the SI batteries going bad effect the temp and fuel gages. Nothing was mentioned about my tach. THe electronic Speedo still works though. I have an auto, and could live w/o the tach, but it would still be nice to have the temp gauge working. The benefit- when my mom drives it, and the fuel gauge reads empty, she fills it up, (even though it still has 1/4 tank)!!

My speedometer & odometer were nonfunctional,as well as fuel guage and various lights. Best solution for me was complete replacement-$100.00 for used cluster plus 3 hrs.time to change out myself. Sounds like your prolems are not as serious.
