: Dan:

: do you recall the polarity of the battery mounting
: points on the SI board, or are they marked?

: I ask because I attempted the remote fix a few
: years back, but it didn't work right,
: perhaps due to poor workmanship. I'd like to give
: it another try.

I don't recall the polarity, but the batteries were marked (I still have the old red 450mAhr NiCd's with prongs attached lying around for future reference. I'll check +/- per double/single prong - that may help) I bought two AA holders and attached about 2-3 feet of wire. Taped the 2 holders together. I locately the battery pack under front kickpanel (taped it to the top of some relay so it'll stay put). I tried the Radio Shack heavy duty 1000 mAhr batteries and it worked for about 2 weeks, then the SI lights came back on. I replaced them with standard 600 mAhr NiCd (about 5 minute job now), and everything's okay.

: : Dan,
: : Replacing the SI batteries are cheap and not hard to do. Worth a try. Check the BCG FAQ site for clear instructions (http://web2.airmail.net/grills/b_c_g_FAQ/Electrical.html#anchor6436272.) It cost me about 20 bucks to replace the 2 AA batteries to a remote location and build the reset tool (see the yellow Enthusiast's Companion book for instructions). My dealer wanted about $475 to replace the pc boards. Good luck.
