: I have an 88 M6; to date I've replaced the brake rotors and all worn suspension components. I had the brake calipers checked to ensure they are firing properly and i'm still experiencing a shimmey during braking.
: Any known remedies?
The issue with the M6 shimmy:
(1) The front upper control arm bushings need to be upgraded to a modified E-32, 750 & E-31, 850 bushing. I have had front end shimmy with new rotors (M6 & E-34, M5) before I installed these bushings. Go to: http://www.ultimategarage.com/home.html
(2)The Front rotor design is fine (E-34, M5 has the exact same design!!! with no problems.) it's the under sized 284x10mm rear rotor and 35mm caliper piston. The brake bias is excessive on the front axle which causes over heating and wear. I upgraded the rear brakes on my M6 in 1992, to the E34, M5 300x20mm rotors, w/40mm caliper piston and Jurid 547-FF pads (bolt on installation). I had over 40k miles on the front rotors and pads (while using the rear E-34, M5 upgrade) Then in 1999, I upgraded to the 1995, Euro E34, M5 brakes. The M6 rotors with 30k miles were worn less than 25%, stock pads less than 20% and the runout and parrallelism was less than .001 inch. My guess is I could have easly got another 30-40K out of the front rotors and stock pads. I didn't measure the rear 300x20mm rotors but they looked pretty good for 30k miles also.
Try the E-34, M5/540 upgrade and put your money in the proper solution. This upgrade also keeps the M6 level under hard braking...kiss nose dive good bye...
