I'm a GI, living in Germany. Own a Euro E24, built Aug 79. Has 133,000km on it, and Getrag close-ratio sports trans (different shift pattern - pull down for first gear, etc). Local BMW chief mechanic rates horsepower at 235. Has loads of torque. Bought it from a Belgian for $3000. Beautiful car - have pics available. Another GI brought his "L6" over from the States, and I ran him down REAL quick on the autobahn.

NO comparison between Euro and US versions.
