fuel pump buzzing (archive)

Friends,

Recently my fuel pump has been buzzing very loudly. You could always hear it buzz while at a stand still and sitting in the car, but it is now audible while standing on the outside rear right side of the car. Furthermore, sometimes it cuts out completely, and you can't hear it working. Is this normal or does it sound like I need to replace the pump?
