Believe it or not,you could fit 18 inch rims on your m635! Of course, the ride would suffer but it is possible. Most of us have moved up to 16 inch or 17 inch. You might want to visit tirerack.com to get some insight,(and prices). They're very knowledgeable and helpfull.
An E28 is n '82-'88 5 series.They're mechanically very similar to the E24.Many folks upgrade to rims/tires from an E34...5 series '89 and up.They're a direct bolt on for E24's and E28's.
Hope that helps.
: A month ago I wrote asking general questions RE my "new" '86 M635. The response was overwhelming. Many thanks! Some wrote me directly, and I tried to reply but my Email bounced. So I've done the easy stuff it needs. Now I need tires- and rims, I think. It has the stock TRX 220 yada yadas, which I'm told is between a 14 & 15 in. rim in 'Merican measurement. What is the suitable replacement for these dinosaurs? I downloaded a post from 2/28 that lists e28s, pre 95 7 series, lists offset, discusses hub sizes and centering rings. What is an e28? Are these oem? Is there a web source for used parts like this, or should I visit my local component recycling specialist (junkyard) and have them get online? My best quote on the TRXs was $149 for H rated. Your help now could save this relationship! Thanks.
