Since the basic design never really changed, improvement/refinement of E24's got a little better with each year, so depending on cost/cond./etc. newer is usually better but milage is more important within runs (i.e.82-84/85-87/88-89)Maintaniance costs are near identical for all years and shouldn't be a factor.
Still newer is better on an overall sense.
