OBC Metric/English switching (archive)

My battery went dead and when the OBC restarted as normal it indicates all readings in metric. When I push a button like "range" and then push the recessed button #5 as shown in the owners manual, nothing happens. Does anyone know what I need to do?
This is 1988 M6.
