Hi,
After several years of meticulous care of my '88 635 I've noticed two rust bubbles forming directly under one of my taillights and two more at the bottom of the license plate frame (the matte finish back) Grrrrrrrr!! A BMW body shop told me that the 635 (all years) are extremely susceptible to rust. Taillights were not engineered well at all according the the shop manager. Wheel wells are another area. I've never driven my 6 during the winter months here in Virginia. I'm disappointed at the rust problem but I'm wondering if other people have noticed this problem on their cars. Sadly, the shop manager advised me to leave the rust alone because there was no way to guarantee that the rust wouldn't return. Is this true? Or is it just not worth the body shops time to work on my car. BTW, another body shop told me the same thing.
-Robert.
