: : My 83 633 had the same problem. It was very costly but I had all of the rust cut out and replaced some of the body panels. The shops that you are dealing with are probably going to sand and puddy the rust, instead of cutting it out. You can fix the problem but it will cost alot of $$$. My car was worth it.
: : Ps --> Where are you located in Virginia. I am located in Potomac, MD
It's true that rust is a serious problem and also hard to stop but no serious body shop can tell you that is not worth it to fix it. The repair will not last forever but you could get a good 5 years before it shows up again with the work of a good repair man, otherwise there would not be any classic & historic cars around. You think your 635 has bad rust proofing, try an Alfa Romeo, a Jaguar or many other great classic cars that you can see being used even as daily drivers. I also live in the DC area but moved here just recently and don't any many body shops, actually I am still looking for a mechanic for my 88 635csi (no rust at all) Maybe you guys can recomend me one. I live in Georgetown and can take it either to MD or VA. Good luck getting rid of the rust, but rest asure, it can be done.
