Antenna not working???? (archive)

The antenna on my '87 635 just quit going up and down last weekend. I pulled the antenna, a Hirschman by the way, and verified that all internals were intact and there were no mechanical problems. I applied 12v. to the motor and it goes up and down OK. When I turn the radio on I get a signal from what I think is the amplifier mounted in the rear well.
I checked the small fuse in the unit and it appears to be OK.
Does anyone out there have any ideas??
I am not good on this stereo stuff at all. Give me a mechanical problem anyday.
