My mechanic checked for leaks around the oxygen sensors, re-sealed them and it seemed to help. But the problem came back.
I started running an octane booster named "outlaw". It too helped but didn't completely fix the problem.
Here is what made a HUGE difference. One day my yellow "inspection" light came on so i brought it in for a minor inspection (a REAL BMW mechanic knows what this is). Eugene, the mechanic, who moved here 5 years ago from germany (who also drives a 6) found the alternator bushings very coroded, pushing the alternator pulley out of alignment, to the point that my belts were being damaged. The car has 79,000 miles and is 13 years old. It doesnt surprise me that they coroded.
This was 2 weeks ago and ever since I got the car back it has been amazing. The power increased by at least 30% ( I guess it was running worse then I thought), I get 5 more mpg, and the car is 5 times as fun to drive.
Why this worked, I dont know. Maybe its getting better spark and the drag of the mis aligned pulley is now gone.
This time I realy think its gone and I am twice as happy with the car.
I hope this helps.

: My 84 633 has been acting uplately and I'm hoping you guys can give me some Ideas. My car has always had a fast idle, about 1250 to 1600 RPMs. I finally decided a few weeks ago to see if I could fix it. I took the ICV off and cleaned it with Gumout carb cleaner and readjusted the screw on the top side of the ICV. It worked fine for a few days, sometimes now it ocillates in RPMs, sometimes it oscillates and sometimes it Idles perfectly at 850.The car sometime goes through a whole day of driving perfect and the next day the problem comes back. It also seems to idle perfectly with the AC on. Was Gumout too harsh, and now the ICV gets stuck? I Haven't been able to find any vacume leaks.
: Thanks in advance.
