I have found that quite often the oil filter canister has been partly emptied by siphon action so that when you start the car it takes lots of time to get oil up there to the cam.

Later oil filter canister mounts have an anti-bleedback valve in them ('84 and up), BUT

The valve seals get old and hard, and eventually leak, allowing the siphon to empty the filter after shutdown.

I have been experimenting with different valve seals to stop this, but I don't know how long they will hold up under the heat.

I was thinking of selling a rebuild kit, or a valve exchange program to interested owners once I get the seal material problem perfected.

BMW will NOT just sell the valve or the seal. To replace a 50 cent valve seal, you need to spend over $200.
