Reverse lockout (archive)

What gives. Last night my 85 635csi w/ automatic decided to not let me shift to reverse and park. Forward gears are ok
but im locked out of reverse/park. Whats wrong? Last time i shifted in reverse I do recall a somewhat loud clunk/pop.
