What usually happens is the buttons get sticky and don't make good contact. You may think that you are entering the right code but in fact the contact is bouncing and sending the wrong code to the radio controller. Get some contact cleaner and spray around the buttons and the volume control (This will also reduce or eliminate the crackling sounds when you adjust the volume) and work the buttons many times. You may have to repeat the proceedure 1-3 times. Then the radio has to be on for more then one hour after the last setting attempt, don't touch anything on the radio during this period, and then enter the code. Good luck!
