I too have an '84 633Csi. I got the code off of the ECU one day and found out that it has the chip soldered onto the board. The chip could not just be swapped out. I called Dinan and they said they could remove the existing chip and solder a socket in its place so a new chip could be plugged in. They have a pretty quick turnaround, but it still means a week or so of downtime while you ship your ECU to them. Dinan was quite reasonable as I recall. (www.dinan.com) It would probably be best to let them do the work because they do it all the time and they won't destroy your equipment.
