Want to replace old steering wheel on '86 M635 (archive)

Its an old Momo, with ratted, cracked leather. Even though the interior is a B+ in condition, that old wheel makes it look like a C-!

My mechanic has tried about half a dozen steering wheels from E24's and E28's, but can't find one that'll fit the end of the column. Do any of you guys have an idea where I might find one?

My first choice would be a Motorsports wheel, but failing that I'd take a Momo with a BMW horn button.
