Power Steering Fluid Changing Instructions Help... (archive)

I want to change the PS fluid in my 1988 635. I'm just going to use a turkey Baster to remove the old fluid. I'm assuming it Automatic Trans fluid since the fluid is red. Does anyone know what the proper trans fluid is to use. What does BMW spec for the car? Also do I have to pump the brakes when I remove the old fluid and put the new fluid in.
How much fluid do I need to do the job. I have a new filter ready. Any advise or insight would be appreciated.
