: I need to get my air cond recharged, should I just go freon, or convert to the new system? thanks

I know some one that spent $3k having their A/C repaired and upgraded to R-134a and there still having trouble. Can you imagine that. I would only upgrade when the system needs a new compressor. Even the biggest system only take a couple of pounds of freon. You would most likely be way ahead recharging with R-12 unless it leaks like a sieve. The system was designed for R-12 and trying to retrofit by flushing and only replacing the freon will most likely be less than satusfactory.
