: I had the same symptoms and I found no loose grounds. My mechanic thought that it might have been the SI Board, so it was replaced under warranty (CCU Uptime). They had a small disclaimer in the literature with the newer ECU unit that the conductor plate can cause the temp gauge to be inaccurate. What does a conductor plate look like and where is it? GOOD QUESTIONS! Haven't even looked in the Bentley manual for it since it was taken care of by the mechanic. I do know that the fix was only $90 or so for the part/labor. Not bad considering the cost of a new SI Board. Hope that helps!

Had this same problem on a '82 - 633csi that lasted for a couple years before I figured it out. Check all ground connections by the battery, fuse box and to the base of the engine compartment. I had run a separate ground wire directly from the wire board behind the dash and that didn't fix it until the standard ground to the body was cleaned. This was many years ago and I have not had a problem since. I sent in the guage as well to insure it worked correctly and it was ionly the ground. Check it out, there are many places to short out and cause the behavior.
