Peter, I wanted to thank you regarding the trick of using the bottom half of the 2002 shifter to create a short shift for the 6. I just had this done and it made a big improvement. My mechanic, who has a 635 and a M-6 was skeptical. Now he wants to do this for the M-6!
If anyone is interested, the part number from BMW is 25-11-1-205-870, "shift lever". With my CCA discount, the dealer charged me about $30.00 for it.
Well worth the trouble!
